Extraneous Cognitive Load
(I’ve also seen this described as extrinsic cognitive load, though extraneous seems more prevalent)
Extraneous cognitive load describes the additional difficulty that is imposed by the way information is presented.
For example, a well-designed diagram which expresses the relationship between different elements often has lower extraneous cognitive load than a 10-paragraph textual description of the same information.
